Proofreading for Court Reporters

When you’re a court reporter, the legal system depends on your ability to document proceedings in a verbatim record. The transcripts you produce are a reflection of your hard work, and their accuracy is of paramount importance.

As an experienced proofreader, I can find the errors you may have missed and make sure the quality of the work you’re turning in is excellent.

Why Use a Proofreader?

Mistakes and typos are a troublesome obstacle that can take time away from the more important things that deserve your focus. Even after you spend hours combing through each sentence, these pesky errors can still find their way into the final transcripts. This not only casts a shadow over the hard work you put in, but it can even damage your reputation. When a few small mistakes can make the difference between an excellent transcript and an inaccurate documentation of testimony, it can cause major headaches.

Using a proofreader to ensure the quality of your work is an investment in yourself and your career that allows you to spend your time and energy on those parts of your job that cannot be done by anyone else.

Ensure Quality

A proofreader will carefully comb through your transcript, checking it for errors and inconsistencies, in order to ensure that your work is top-notch.

Have Peace of Mind

When you can count on your proofreader to double-check each word, there is no need to worry about missing something important.

Take Back Your Time

Once you eliminate the hours you normally spend painstakingly re-reading each transcript, you can reinvest that time in other areas.

Clara Carlson-Kirigin

Hi, I’m Clara! I am a detail-oriented grammar enthusiast with a fascination for the many nuances of English. I have a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College where I majored in Latin with minors in Ancient Greek and History. My studies of ancient languages have given me a strong grasp of the complexities of grammar as well as a love of language and the written word.

In addition to my background in languages, I received specialized training from the course Transcript Proofreading: Theory and Practice™ offered by Caitlin Pyle at Proofread Anywhere. This course taught me the ins and outs of transcripts based on Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters by Lillian Morson, Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells, and NCRA guidelines.

Being a freelance proofreader and editor is my full-time job, and I have been working with court reporters since 2018. When I’m not proofreading transcripts, I’m working as a manuscript editor to help writers polish their prose.
